THE GREEN FUTURE OF CONSTRUCTION BUDMA 2025 (summary)

The 33rd edition of the BUDMA Construction and Architecture Fair, one of the most important events of the construction sector in Central and Eastern Europe, and the accompanying WINDOOR-TECH Trade Fair of Machines and Components for the Production of Windows, Doors, Gates and Facades, ended on February 14, leaving behind a wealth of inspiration, knowledge and valuable business contacts.

The slogan of this year's fair, “The Green Future of Construction,” referred to the technological transformation of construction towards more sustainable development, leading to a significant reduction in construction time, waste reduction and optimization of material consumption.

Honorary patronage of this year's edition of the fair was provided by the most opinion-forming institutions:  Ministry of Development and Technology, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, Mayor of the City of Poznań, Polish Investment and Trade Agency, Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers, Chamber of Architects of Poland, Association of Polish Architects, Polish Chamber of Construction, Polish Construction Cluster, Polish Association of Construction Employers, National Labor Inspectorate and Polish Windows and Doors Association.

- It is trade fairs that build the world and the regions where they are held. They are the ones that create national economies. I am glad that we can again, at the beginning of the construction season, meet in Poznań to discuss the problems facing the industry and see the latest trends and technologies.  With these words, MTP Group President Tomasz Kobierski opened this year's BUDMA Construction and Architecture Fair during the opening ceremony.

At this year's construction fair, nearly 600 exhibitors from 27 countries presented their offerings. There was no shortage of technological innovations and premiere solutions at the fair expositions. Examples of products creating trends in the construction industry are the winners of the MTP Group Gold Medal, which were honored at the opening ceremony of the fair. A total of 28 products were awarded. 10 trade fair expositions were awarded in the Acanthus Aureus competition for their friendly design, manufacturing technology and the creation of a unique space conducive to business talks.

Business meeting with professionals

The offer and program of the BUDMA International Construction and Architecture Fair are addressed to representatives of the construction industry in the broadest sense of the term, including mainly four groups of customers: distributors, investors, contractors and architects. During 4 intensive days, the fair was visited by nearly 26,000 professionals from 41 countries. The largest group among trade fair visitors were distributors, who accounted for 34% of the total number of visitors. Professionals and contractors represented 30% of the professionals visiting the fair, while investors and general contractors accounted for 16%.  Architects accounted for 12% of the total number of visitors at Budma 2025, and 7% were manufacturers.

Professional visitors from Poland

The BUDMA fair, as every year, was a business meeting place for representatives of all Polish provinces. The provinces most represented this year were Wielkopolskie -21%, Mazowieckie -17%, Dolnośląskie - 12%, Śląskie - 10%, Pomorskie - 7% and Kujawsko-Pomorskie - 6%.

International dimension of business

The international character of BUDMA is evidenced both by the significant number of foreign exhibitors, who this year represented 27 countries from all over the world, and by the visitors to the fair, representing 41 countries. The largest group were visitors from Germany - 14%. In second place were the Baltic countries - 12%, and the podium is rounded off by Scandinavia - 11% and the Czech Republic, whose representatives accounted for 10% of all fair visitors.

As part of a special Hosted Buyers program, we hosted a group of buyers, contractors and investors from countries at BUDMA: Lithuania, Georgia, Ukraine, Great Britain, Moldova, Sweden Serbia, France, Israel, Ireland and Greece.

The Polish Investment and Trade Agency, in cooperation with the Polish Construction Cluster, organized a special business zone during the fair called “Poland. Business Forward Construction Sector”, where Polish entrepreneurs in the construction sector could learn about the export potential of selected markets and hold business talks with foreign entrepreneurs and experts on how to support Polish entrepreneurs in implementing their export strategies. Representatives of Foreign Trade Offices from Bulgaria, Georgia, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Serbia were present at the PAIH booth.

Construction under the magnifying glass of experts

BUDMA 2025 was accompanied by a series of substantive meetings with authorities in the construction and architecture industry, as well as conferences on current trends and challenges facing this sector of the economy.

During the BUILD4FUTURE Construction Economic Forum, prominent industry experts, economists, financial analysts, investors and contractors summarized the past months in the construction industry and set directions for necessary changes. A lot of attention was also paid to the impact of the war in Ukraine on the construction industry in Poland, as well as technological, economic and legal issues of thermal modernization of single- and multi-family housing in Poland. The forum was organized in cooperation with the Polish Association of Construction Employers and the Polish Chamber of Construction.

For the first time at Budma, a Green Building Forum was organized under the slogan: “Climate goals in construction. Law vs. strategy”. Practitioners: architects, investors, representatives of construction companies, general contractors and manufacturers of construction products presented the already existing environmental requirements they face in large investments. During the lectures and panel discussions, it was unanimously agreed that there is a need for education in the subject of environmental requirements for all participants in the construction market. Experts agreed that it is necessary to use climatic requirements as a competitive advantage, to build a strategy that will not only meet the requirements, but will open new market opportunities and face the demands of banks and investment funds.

As every year, the Engineering Days, organized by the Greater Poland District Chamber of Civil Engineers, were very popular, with topics on flood risks, as well as hydro-engineering, blue-green infrastructure and geothermal construction.

An important forum for the exchange of experience for architects, designers, constructors and contractors, as well as companies related to fire safety, building experts or fire protection inspectors was the 4th Scientific and Technical Conference “Fire safety of buildings”, during which participants had the opportunity to learn about changes in regulations and standards on fire protection. The event attracted about 400 participants.

The issue of spatial planning is still topical and raises many legal dilemmas. During BUDMA we had the opportunity to get acquainted with interesting speeches on the intricacies of the spatial planning system reform in the framework of the 17th edition of the nationwide conference “Urban Planner's Day”, this time under the theme “How to save the reform”, which was organized by the Society of Polish Urban Planners (Poznań branch).

The State Labor Inspectorate organized on the second day of the fair a conference “Safe construction - is it possible?”, which brought together many experts, representatives of the construction industry and labor inspectors. During the conference, the basic problems of ensuring safety on Polish construction sites were discussed. A lot of attention was paid to the presentation of good practices used in everyday work, as well as modern technical solutions in individual fall protection equipment. Finally, the National Labor Inspectorate's three-year campaign “Construction. STOP accidents!”

Prefabrication in the spotlight

An opportunity to understand the growing role of prefabrication in the modern construction industry of tomorrow was provided by the presentation of the latest range of materials, machines, technologies, as well as finished products and services for prefabricated and modular construction at PREFTEC - Center for Modern Prefabrication, a project organized in cooperation with the Energy-Efficient Ready Houses Association. On an area of ca. 2,000 sqm, dozens of companies from Poland and abroad presented their product and technological innovations. Wood, concrete and steel prefabrication is the ideal solution to today's challenges in the construction industry, such as the shortage of skilled labor and the rising cost of raw materials. Thanks to prefabrication, buildings can be energy efficient, aesthetically pleasing and durable, meeting the requirements of modern ecological standards. Experts stress that prefabrication reduces the carbon footprint, making it an excellent choice for modern developments.

Architecture in green

In February, Poznań became the capital of the architecture industry, with representatives of key offices and studios from across the country attending. The event was held around the idea of sustainable construction of the future and the use of wood in architecture. There was no shortage of interesting debates, lectures and meetings with respected experts.

At Budma 2025, a unique space ARCHI-STRADA was created for the first time, a place friendly to architects, designers, designers, students and architecture enthusiasts for the future.

ARCHI-STRADA hosted the 6th edition of the D&A Design & Architecture Forum, organized in cooperation with the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland and the Association of Polish Architects, as well as renowned studios and authorities in the field of architecture

and design. As in previous years, there was no shortage of examples of good architecture, distinguished guests, discussions on the transformation of space and responsibility in design, interesting exhibitions and competitions. The common denominator of all the speeches was an attempt to find effective ways to use wood in architecture, combining tradition and modernity.

Among the speakers and guests of the Forum were distinguished guests: Asko Takala, partner at Helsinki-based architectural firm Sivén & Takala and president of the Finnish Association of Architects, Mateusz Mastalski, acting design director at Henning Larsen Architects, responsible for the design of Copenhagen's first housing development based entirely on wooden structures, Krzysztof Mycielski (Group 5 Architects), Piotr Grabowski (Studio GAB), Mirosław Wojcieszak (GWPA), Agnieszka Kalinowska-Sołtys and Szymona Wojciechowski (APA Wojciechowski Architekci), or Piotr Brodniewicz (Andrewex) and Anna Zawadzka-Sobieraj. During the Forum, the topic of the return of wood to modern architecture was discussed, including innovative technologies and the adaptation of wooden objects to new functions.

On the third day of the event, a discussion on the most important challenges of contemporary architecture, namely housing, was held on stage. The debate featured Robert Konieczny (KWK PROMES), Mateusz Mastalski (Henning Larsen), Marcin Kościuch (Ultra Architects) and Magdalena Buczyńska-Zapała (SARP Krakow Branch). The event, organized by the A&B publishing house, was preceded by the settlement of the editorial student competition Zamieszkanie.

Two special speeches were held in cooperation with Bookarest bookstore: Robert Konieczny's talk around his book “Buildings + Ideas”, and Jakub Glaz's lecture on outstanding female architects whose achievements, despite remaining in the shadow of men's history, still constitute one of the foundations of the architectural industry.

Interactive zones for professionals and enthusiasts

Visitors to the Budma fair had the opportunity to see, among other things, professional demonstrations of construction and finishing work carried out by professionals and DIY practitioners, and to benefit from advice and training sessions organized by organizations cooperating with the fair.

The Association of Polish Parquet Makers organized workshops and parquet demonstrations for flooring specialists - the Budma Parquet Show. During the shows, specialists demonstrated how to lay, care for and protect parquet floors, and shared their knowledge of the latest trends and technologies.

As part of the Finishing Works Group test zone, contractors, tradesmen and practitioners had the opportunity to test products and tools from global brands under the guidance of specialists providing valuable advice and guidance. Putty compounds were presented along with instruction on spraying with an aggregate, there were tests of innovative gypsum boards with IMG TECH technology or demonstrations of applying decorative plaster to an elevation.

Interactive presentations combined with the opportunity to test equipment and construction materials were also held at the training and practical space of the Finishing Industry Association - specializing in training and demonstrations of processing and installation of ceramic, mega-format cladding using professional construction tools

Just like a year ago, during this year's Budma fair it was possible to see live demonstrations and competitions dedicated to mini crane operators as part of the Mini Crane Operator Challenge event, organized under the auspices of the League of Master Operators portal and THE TOOLS magazine.

Fire Zone at the Budma trade fair

Once again during BUDMA we could admire the latest trends in fireplace design, among other things, as part of a special zone - the FIRE ZONE, organized in cooperation with the magazine Świat Kominków and Partners. For four days we could see many fiery proposals and fireplace inspirations for interiors and gardens, as well as systems combining fireplace appliances with other heating systems: heat pumps, photovoltaics.

Education at Budma fair

During the Budma fair, the 53rd central finals of the “Golden Trowel” Construction Tournament, organized by the National Association of Construction Education, took place. This is one of the few competitions designed for students of vocational schools with a construction profile, which gives students the opportunity to present their skills in categories such as bricklayer, painter, floor layer, roofer, drywall installer or sanitary installation, among others.

The “Golden Trowel” Construction Tournament is the only competition that gives students of trade schools the opportunity to test their knowledge and practical skills. Its formula is similar to external professional exams, which allows students to check their preparation for employment in a profession. Finalists of the tournament receive valuable prizes and the right to exemption from the written examination confirming qualifications in a profession.

BUDMA and WINDOOR-TECH for joinery

BUDMA was accompanied by the exhibition of WINDOOR-TECH Fair of Machines, Tools and Components for the Production of Windows, Doors, Gates, Facades, creating a great complement to the offer for the woodwork industry. Responding to the market's search for innovative solutions in challenging times, there were numerous novelties, world premieres and solutions in the field of automation and robotization. Exhibitors presented machines, equipment, software to improve and optimize production processes in joinery.

BUDMA - participants' opinions:

- “Participation in this largest and most important meeting of the construction industry is very important for me and for the entire construction supervision. Every year we see more and more interest in the results of our initiatives” - Dorota Cabanska, Chief Inspector of Construction Supervision, said at the opening of the fair (Source: www.samorzad.pap.pl).

- “BUDMA is an event aimed at professionals who are looking for more than basic product information at the fair. They expect knowledge and presentation of concrete solutions in practice. Therefore, instead of presenting our product range, we focused precisely on showing our products in the context of their real-life application, answering participants' questions and giving them practical tips. Such an approach brings value to them, and at the same time allows for a better knowledge and deeper understanding of the products by the professionals who interact with them” - explains Krzysztof Kulig, Development Director at Tubadzin Group (Source: www.tubadzin.pl).

- “BUDMA is the largest construction trade fair in Poland. It is an event of more than regional scope. We have visitors from different parts of the country here, there are architects, construction companies, also retail customers, also we can present our offer to a wide audience” - says Jaroslaw Wilusz, Sales Manager at INOTHERM.

- “The event is an opportunity to meet with our customers and to meet with our competitors, with whom we exchange views, insights and comments. We observe modern solutions, try to imitate them, implement them in practice and make your assemblies easier” - says Marcin Drabczyk of PODNIOSE.PL.

- „We are truly grateful for the opportunity to attend the event you organized. It was an incredibly productive experience for us, as we discovered a wide range of products that will significantly enhance our construction projects. We had the chance to establish valuable contacts with several companies specializing in locksmithing, flooring, machinery for cement screeds, and mechanical wall matting. These connections will undoubtedly help us improve our processes and bring innovative solutions to our work. The event provided us with key insights into the latest industry trends and cutting-edge technologies, and we are excited to explore the potential collaborations further. Thank you for organizing such a beneficial and enriching experience!” – says Nikola Grozdanic, GRO-MA GRADNJA d.o.o.-  Serbia.

- „The event was indeed a valuable experience, providing great opportunities for networking and discovering new products and solutions. I had the chance to connect with several exhibitors relevant to our field, and the conversations were insightful. We have made contact with the following exhibitors: Fischer, Venifloor, L'altra pietra, Isomat, Winkelmann Foundation screw. In the next steps we will try and reach out for any business commitments. The organization of the fair was excellent, and I appreciate the efforts made to facilitate business interactions. If I were to suggest any improvements, perhaps an even more structured matchmaking system could help in connecting attendees with exhibitors more efficiently” - says Denis Turcan, VALDCONGRUP Ltd – Moldova.
