The history of Polish architects' associations dates back 135 years. It began with an initiative by builders and engineers who formed the Krakow Technical Society (1877), followed by the activities of architects from the Warsaw Society for the Promotion of Trade and Industry (1899). These efforts were continued by the independent Delegation of Polish Architects, established in 1908 after the International Congress of Architects in Vienna.

After regaining independence, the Warsaw Architects' Association undertook the organization of the First General Congress of Architects (1919). In 1926, the Association of Polish Architects (SAP) was established in Warsaw. At a congress of Polish architectural associations, it was decided to establish periodic congresses of delegates under the traditional name of the Delegation of Polish Architects.
In the same year, the Union of Polish Architects' Associations (ZSAP) was established in Poznań. Eight years later, in July 1934, the General Congress of Delegates in Warsaw established the Association of Architects of the Republic of Poland (SARP), uniting all architects' organizations. This name survived until 1952, when, at the 6th General Assembly of Delegates of SARP, the name was changed to the Association of Polish Architects, retaining the traditional abbreviation SARP. The Association has retained this name to this day.
