The decarbonization of the heating industry in Poland and the development of recommendations for district heating systems were the main topics of discussion at the first meeting of the team for the transformation of the heating industry and the definition of a model for the functioning of the heat market.

The first meeting of the team for the transformation of the heating industry and defining a model for the functioning of the heat market was held on October 15. The team's task is to work out solutions for the transformation of the Polish heating industry by increasing the share of RES and improving energy efficiency.

The team includes representatives of public institutions, heating companies, scientific circles and NGOs. The first meeting of the Team for the transformation of the heating sector and determining the functioning of the heat market was attended by Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska and Deputy Minister Urszula Zielińska.

The team serves as a subsidiary body of the minister responsible for energy. The main tasks of the team are:

  • Analysis and assessment of the economic situation and regulatory conditions for the operation of the heat sector in Poland.
  • Analyzing and evaluating the potential of the heat market to achieve the goals of climate policy, and developing directional recommendations on the strategy for development and transformation of the heat sector in Poland.
  • Proposing changes in regulations or indicating their directions, enabling the realization of the set goals in ensuring the transformation and operation of the heating sector in Poland.
  • Developing solutions and recommendations for financing the transformation of the heating sector in Poland.

As emphasized during the meeting, the team's priority goals are to decarbonize the heating sector in Poland and to achieve it in an optimized manner. The team will also work on developing recommendations for smaller district heating systems that do not have sufficient resources to make decisions on selecting new technologies and choosing the right decarbonization path.

The team for the transformation of the heating industry and the determination of the functioning of the heat market was established on the basis of an order of the Minister of Climate and Environment dated September 19, 2024.
